✨ What happens when we're no longer sure of what we're looking at?
Images generated by artificial intelligence are profoundly transforming the way we produce, distribute, and interpret visual content. But along with these new possibilities come new questions: What do we mean by authenticity today? How is our relationship with photography changing? And what tools do we need to interpret an increasingly hybrid visual landscape?
In this Astratalk, Giorgia Accantini will guide us through a critical exploration of the relationship between photography, generative artificial intelligence, and contemporary perception. Drawing on research that weaves together empirical data, theoretical analysis, and practical experimentation, the session will address the most pressing issues in the current debate: trust in images, artistic value, misinformation, visual literacy, and the definition of reality in digital environments.
📌 We will share the results of a quantitative and qualitative survey involving 805 participants, focusing on perceptions, expectations, and concerns related to AI-generated images.
📌 We will also present an experimental comparison of outputs generated by nine different GenAI platforms based on textual descriptions of twelve professional photographs, to understand how these systems differ aesthetically and structurally.
📌 The presentation will also focus on the “Synthetic Authentic Continuum,” a theoretical model proposed to classify images based on their degree of artificial generation and manipulation, along with the idea of a related watermarking system called the “ARHUS Score.”
